A New Entrant in Tampere’s Hotel Market – Uumen Hotels Aims to Become the City’s Most Affordable Hotel Accommodation with Its Small-Room Concept
Press Release | 9.10.2024
Uumen Oy
Renovation work for the first hotel in historic Finlayson factory area will start in the beginning of October. The hotel operator, Uumen Hotels, is introducing a new accommodation concept to Finland, focusing around compact and practical small-rooms. The new hotel at Finlaysoninkatu 5 will feature a total of 99 rooms, including single, double, and four person rooms. Most affordable single room can be booked for as little as 39 euros. In addition to solo travelers, the hotel’s primary target groups include groups of friends, couples, families, and teams such as sports groups or students.
The hotel will celebrate its grand opening in May 2025 and will open its booking calendar by the end of 2024. Tamperean entrepreneur behind the project Eetu Rahkola, 30, shares his excitement about this new venture:
”Beautiful and thriving Tampere attracts both domestic and international travelers, and we see a significant demand for budget accommodation solutions in the city. Our room concept is a true space miracle and absolutely worth experiencing. On the other hand, we hope to encourage our guests to spend quality time in the city and use the euros they save with us on the fantastic services in the Finlayson area. We hope that, with our presence, Tampere will become even more accessible from a traveler’s perspective.”
Uumen Hotels has drawn inspiration from Japanese capsule hotels but has designed its rooms to be more spacious and better suited to the Finnish mindset. In addition to the small-rooms hotel stay is enhanced by shared spaces, such as a rooftop terrace and a lounge with views of Lake Näsijärvi.
“Building an affordable hotel option for us is primarily about prioritization. First and foremost, the basics such as quality sleep, comfort of the facilities, and a seamless customer experience are everything to us. Additionally, we aim to identify things that our guests don’t want to pay extra for, which is why our room layouts are optimized and the bathroom facilities are shared. We also offer a wide range of additional services, allowing guests to choose services like breakfast, workspace, or leisure activities according to their interests. With this combination, we aim to provide the best value for money in the city,” Eetu Rahkola explains the process behind the new concept.
The hotel rooms will be manufactured almost to completion using modular production at a Finnish factory and then transported to the hotel site for finishing in early 2025. The benefits of this construction method allow the rooms to be produced in serial production, saving both time and resources.
The Asset Manager Kai Niinimäki from Varma, the Finnish pension insurance company that owns properties in the Finlayson area, is also excited about the project:
”Since its origin over 200 years ago, the Finlayson area has been a birthplace of various innovations, and we are very pleased with the opportunity presented by Uumen Hotels to offer a new and experiential accommodation experience in the heart of the area.”
